Vehicles in German Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were contacted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored liquid

Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.

Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.

Officers then found many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was probably human blood.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A senior representative commented the attack left him speechless and required to be solved promptly.

"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
