19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first trophy for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a torrid year, winning just one win at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is his initial trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of 2023.

The win also signifies he has secured 21 championships at twenty-one different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform positively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He rescued four initial chances in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
